After hackers based in China used a vulnerability in Internet Explorer to hack into Google and other companies, Microsoft has released an emergency security patch. There is a good article about it here

If you have automatic updates turned on and you left your computer on last night, the patch was likely installed overnight. If not, or if you aren't sure, take a few minutes today and go to Windows Update to check for critical updates. It won't take long and could save you a lot of hassle later.
