Trend Micro Client Server Messaging Suite Version Update
This entry was posted on 8/12/2006 7:50 AM and is filed under Virus and Spyware.
If you have a Server and are an NCTCS client, you are probably running Trend Micro Client Server Messaging Suite on it as your anti-virus solution. Most of you have fairly recently been upgraded to version 3.0; the most notable change on the client side was additonal SPAM filtering and the creation of an end-user managed SPAM folder. However, this particular version was a dramatic change from past versions on the server side, and on the heels of quite a bit of feedback, Trend is Beta testing a new version (3.5) which is scheduled to be released in the next few months. I've just received a copy, and am happy to report that it seems to resolve many of the issue we saw in 3.0, as well as include some terrific enhancements.
Notable change include:
* Improved Spyware prevention and integration. Trend has a separate spyware-specific product that they have been working on, so Spyware detection was limted in 3.0. This is a welcome addition!
* Ability to quarantine spam mail to the server AND end users - this change addresses an issue that many clients have expressed frustration about. While the new SPAM folder in each users inbox has generally been a good thing, allowing users to approve senders themselves, some peopel have exrpessed frustration at having to go through it. The new version will give us a choice.
* Enable client to be the update source for engines and patterns
* Option to send reports as email attachment and ability to configure the "sender" of the notifications
* Ability to identify the computer name in the notification
* Brought back ability to use IPXFER (for transferring clients reporting to another server) which was removed in CSM(tm) 3.0
* Simplified installation
* Resolved HTTP 403 error when trying to access the CSM\MSA console, which has been an issue on several machines
All in all, I'm pretty pleased with changes in this version, and the upgrade is covered under your maintenance agreement. I'll let you know when the final version is realeased.
