The latest version of Internet Explorer (7.0) is scheduled to be released in the 4th Quarter of 2006. Microsoft promises that the latest version of its internet browser will be more secure and include some features that users of Firefox and Safari have previously enjoyed, such as tabbed browsing. Microsoft has also announced that they will distribute this release to customers using the Windows/Microsoft Automatic Update Service. For most Internet Explorer users, this should be welcome news, but for those that access offsite Line of Business ( LOB ) applications, it may be cause for concern. If your software vendor has not updated their application for the tighter security restrictions built into this version, you may have trouble accessing the software or using features that require Active X controls, etc.  Microsoft plans to make a tool available for those users who need to block IE 7.0 from being installed as an automatic update.

A specific release date has not yet been announced, but if you have concerns, you may want to contact your application vendor to find out what will be required for your business. If you need help determining whether this release will affect your systems or applications, or have any other questions, please feel free to call us at 530.267.6199.
